Shipyard Welder

Job Description:

  • Knowledge of arc welding equipment (AC/DC), including setup and maintenance
  • Practical experience in MIG/MAG, FCAW, and gas-shielded welding
  • Ability to perform tack welding and prepare components for welding Understanding of types of welded joints, seams, and quality requirements
  • Edge preparation skills and knowledge of joint types and weld symbols on drawings
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and welding symbols Understanding of properties of metals, alloys, and welding consumables (electrodes, wires)
  • Knowledge of welding defects (porosity, cracks, lack of fusion) and methods of prevention and repair
  • Ability to perform basic weld inspection and quality control
  • Understanding of welding distortions and internal stresses and how to minimize them
  • Experience with measuring and testing tools
  • Compliance with safety requirements, including safe handling of gas cylinders Understanding of surface quality requirements after cutting and welding

Job Requirements:

  • At least 5 years of experience in ship fitting
  • Availability to move to another worksite if needed
